Travis Hunter stands out in college football, playing both offense and defense like the legendary Charles Woodson. So far, he has 342 receiving yards, one touchdown, 11 tackles, and one interception in three games.
Hunter is an exciting player, but not everyone is a fan. In a chat with Yahoo Sports’ Caroline Fenton, he shared how criticism drives him this season.
Fenton asked Hunter how he deals with critics doubting his skills as a receiver and cornerback. Hunter said it’s not a surprise and he’s focused on proving them wrong.
Deion Sanders, the head coach of Colorado, excelled in the NFL as both a cornerback and a versatile player. In 1996, he achieved 475 receiving yards, showcasing his impressive skills.
Hunter expressed that many people have been critical of him, but he’s determined to keep proving them wrong. He acknowledges the negativity, even from the top competitors, but he chooses to ignore it and stay focused on his game.
Hunter shared that his main motivation is to silence his critics rather than to validate himself. “It drives me to show them they’re wrong. I care more about proving them wrong than proving myself right.” He began his career at Jackson State and was the second overall prospect in the 2022 class.
In his season at Jackson State, Hunter had 20 tackles, two interceptions, 188 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. In 2023, he ranked second on the team with 721 receiving yards and added 30 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three interceptions.
Colorado hasn’t been to a bowl game since 2020. The Buffaloes will play the Baylor Bears on September 21 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
