Played varsity football at Madison County High School for three years.
In high school, ended with a 38-2 record and won back-to-back 1A state championships in junior and senior years.
In his final year, he made 44 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, and deflected 15 passes on defense. Plus, as a quarterback, he threw for 1,300 yards, rushed for 1,000 yards, and scored 33 touchdowns.
In his junior year, he racked up 59 tackles and snatched eight interceptions, running two back for touchdowns. Earned spots on the Class 1A all-state team and first-team All-Big Bend as a defensive back.
In his sophomore year, he had 46 tackles and eight interceptions.
Played basketball every year and was part of the team that won the 1A state championship in his senior year, achieving a rare football-basketball double championship.
On the basketball court as a junior, he averaged 15.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 4.0 steals per game. Notably, he achieved 11 triple-doubles and was named Big Bend Player of the Year.
