Despite the rainy weather, thousands of fans showed up at Folsom Field for Colorado football’s 2024 public debut during the Black & Gold spring game. They were eager to catch a glimpse of the team coached by Deion Sanders after the last season.

Keith Warner, a dedicated Colorado alum and superfan, braved the rain in his trusty Ralphie coat to attend the game. He noted that many CU fans from the ’90s and 2000s still show up rain or shine, driven by their deep loyalty to the black and gold and their hopeful belief in the program’s potential resurgence.

“No matter the score, seeing Ralphie charge onto the field fills you with hope that your team can pull off a win.”

CU athletics managed to sell 28,424 tickets for the game. Looks like roughly half of those ticket holders actually made it to the stadium.

“Last year, we came, and our boys had a blast,” shared Karly Gillaspie, a CU graduate, at the game with her family. “The atmosphere and excitement here are unbeatable. Prime really knows how to make it a fun outing – something we’ve never experienced before.”

Last year, the Buffaloes finished 4-8, a big step up from their rough 1-11 season in 2022. For long-time fans, who remember the glory days of the 1990 national championship team, this improvement signals that Coach Prime is steering the team in the right direction.

“He’s on track, bringing in fresh talent,” Tim Reeder remarked. “I’ve been a Colorado football fan since forever. Been holding season tickets for 38 years now. Through thick and thin, I’m here. Gotta support the new faces today.”

It’s been rough for Colorado fans lately. The Buffs haven’t made a bowl game since 2020 with Coach Dorrell. But there’s optimism in the air that this year could break the streak.

“We’re aiming for a bowl game this year and to step up in the Big 12,” said Brett Reeder, Tim’s son.

Tim chimed in, “Excited to be back in the Big 12. We remember the good ol’ days.”

Coach Prime is shaking things up for the Buffs, bringing fresh energy and talent. Fans are optimistic about the switch to the Big 12 from the Pac-12, hoping for positive changes in their beloved team.

“Before Prime, we weren’t even in the game. As a fan, all I want is some competitiveness. It’s thrilling to feel that excitement again.”
