Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes aren’t just ruffling feathers among current Nebraska football staff and coaches. A former Husker coach also has issues with the constant hype surrounding CU.
It’s understandable since Jay Norvell, a former Nebraska coach, now leads Colorado’s rival and hears a lot about “Coach Prime.”
Jay Norvell talked about the buzz around his rival coach at Mountain West Media Days, emphasizing that his own players deserve more recognition.
Ex-Nebraska football coach puts Coach Prime’s players on blast
“I read about Colorado’s QB—he threw for 3200 yards. So Brayden’s thrown more yards than anyone at Colorado Boulder ever has,” Norvell commented, referring to CSU quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. “I don’t have any thoughts about Deion Sanders. He’s not on my mind.”
Jay Norvell and Deion Sanders have a history of tension. Norvell’s efforts to advance his coaching career may be a factor in their dislike for each other. This isn’t the first time Norvell has openly criticized Sanders.
“Sanders, meanwhile, tends to land jobs for his impressive style.”
Despite a 4-8 record, Sanders is often mentioned for NFL coaching roles, while Norvell quietly works to rebuild Colorado State.
The two coaches will face each other this fall, and the former Nebraska coach surely wants a victory.
