Analyst Says Colorado Faithful Owe Deion Sanders an Apology After July Recruiting Surge

Colorado’s fan base has ridden a wild recruiting roller-coaster this summer. A quiet June — when the Buffaloes struggled to secure blue-chip commitments — had many supporters doubting whether head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders could back up his bold recruiting promises.

Those doubts, says Locked On Buffs host Kevin Borba, were premature. With Sanders now healthy and back on campus, Colorado has caught fire on the trail, prompting Borba to demand a public apology from skeptical fans.

A June Slump Without Coach Prime

Early last month, reports surfaced that Sanders was dealing with an undisclosed health issue that kept him away from Boulder during crucial official-visit weekends. Borba noted that prospects “just don’t get the full Colorado experience” when Coach Prime isn’t there to greet them, and several highly ranked targets walked away unimpressed.

Momentum Flips in July

Everything changed once Sanders returned to the office. In the first two weeks of July, the Buffs picked up five commitments, highlighted by four-star linebacker Rodney Colton Jr. That pledge, Borba argued, should silence the pessimists: “For Coach Prime to be in the mix, for Coach [Andre] Hart to close that deal, some of you owe them an apology.”

Work Still to Do

Despite the hot streak, Colorado’s 2026 class still sits just 79th nationally, per 247Sports. Most top prospects are already committed elsewhere, meaning Sanders must pull off a series of flips before the early signing period in December. Still, Borba believes the program’s July surge proves Sanders can rebound from adversity and deliver results when he’s fully engaged.
