Colorado Coach Deion Sanders Expected Back on Duty Within A Week After Health Layoff

Boulder, Colorado — Colorado head coach Deion Sanders should rejoin the Buffaloes in roughly a week, former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones said after a recent fishing trip with the coach at his Texas ranch. Jones shared video of the visit on Instagram, telling BetOnline that Sanders is “doing good … he’ll be there, he’ll be ready to go.”

Sanders, 57, has been away from Boulder while dealing with an undisclosed medical issue. Two days earlier he posted an Instagram clip that showed him walking—albeit gingerly—alongside rapper Lil Wayne during a visit to his estate.

Neither Sanders nor the university has revealed details of the condition. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has battled persistent blood-clot problems in recent years and had two toes amputated in 2021, though it is unclear whether that history is connected to his current absence.

The charismatic coach is slated to appear at Big 12 preseason media days on Wednesday in Frisco, Texas, and Colorado’s season opener is set for Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech.

In a June 11 post on X, Sanders assured supporters that “everything is OK” and said he was eager to reunite with his staff and players in Boulder, promising further updates once he returns.

Jones closed his update by thanking fans “for all the prayers and good thoughts” sent Sanders’ way.
