Colorado’s Top Home-Grown Lineman, Deacon Schmitt, Puts Buffs in His Final Three and Locks in a June 28 Decision

Windsor (Colo.) four-star offensive-tackle Deacon Schmitt—rated the No. 1 prospect in the state—has trimmed his recruitment to three programs: Colorado, Alabama and Oklahoma. After canceling planned official visits to USC, Tennessee and Nebraska, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound blocker announced he will reveal his college choice on June 28.

Schmitt told On3 that growing up near Boulder makes the chance to become a “hometown hero” especially meaningful, noting the energy he felt during last month’s visit with Coach Deion Sanders and Colorado’s offensive-line staff.

Keeping the state’s premier talent at home would mark a significant recruiting win for the Buffaloes—something they haven’t accomplished with a No. 1 in-state prospect since 2017. Still, traditional powerhouses Oklahoma and Alabama remain firmly in the mix. Schmitt praised the Sooners’ family atmosphere and SEC future, while highlighting Alabama’s storied legacy and data-driven strength program as major draws.

All three staffs now have just over a fortnight to make their final pitch before Schmitt announces where he’ll anchor an offensive line in the fall of 2026.
